CURRENT CHILD RESTRAINT SAFETY SEAT TECHNOLOGY
The Original Child Restraint Seat (and current technology) is
based on Isaac Newton’s First Law of Physics, “that
an object in motion will stay in motion until acted upon by an
outside force.” This principal and the associated child restraint
product designs work sufficiently well if there is a front or rear
impact from a relatively light weight car colliding with another
car while moving under 25 miles per hour. Transportation characteristics
have changed in the past 30 years.
- In the 1970’s, there were no SUV’s as we know them
in 2004 and the vehicle size differential is deadly.
- There are many
more automobiles on the road in 2004 than there were in 1970
and there is a compounding effect leading to more deaths and
injuries.
- There have been only marginal improvements to the original
car seat technology since its introduction e.g., more padding,
improved belts, better fasteners, higher head cushions, etc.
See Dorel v. Uxa, Missouri Court of Appeals, Case Number ED81192
- Seats don’t work in near side impact collisions.
| Although current car seats hold a child’s
body in the seat and prevent ejection from the vehicle, the
body’s internal organs still feel the
effects of serious impact and force. The heart being separated
from the aorta is a common cause of death in car collisions. |
