THE PROBLEM
Each year, there are 200 deaths and 20,000 injuries because of
the shortcoming in car seat design. Car Seats were introduced to the market about
25 years ago, and they haven't changed much since they were made available to the
market. The problem is, cars and trucks have and each year get hurt and killed
due to inherent deficiencies in design and technology.
THE SOLUTION
The Child Safety Egg™ is an energy management system. The seat or "EGG"
converts linear crash forces into arc forces. By doing this, an arc force is
generated. These arcs or centripetal vectors allow the force of a crash to be
naturally absorbed and dissipated and greatly reduce the probability of serious
head, spinal, or internal organ injury.
THE DEVICE
The Safety-Egg design incorporates a rigid structure of lightweight die cast metal alloy
that mounts to a vehicle's standard child restraint hardware (LATCH). It has damped gimbal
bearings that suspended the child seat's injection molded polymer shell. The shell's center
of gravity is eccentric causing it to rotate about the swivel point when forces are applied.
The infant version swivels on two axes, the toddler version on one. The seat shell of the infant
seat is removable and also serves as a child carrier. The centripetal force generated during rotation
oreients the child's posture to coincide with The Rule from any impact direction.
TESTING
My child restraint design has been tested on the sled at the University
of Michigan and computer modeed crash-tested at Wayne State
University with promising results.
THE CONSUMER
The consumer will benefit from the added margin of safety represented
in technology driven by “best practice.” The parent
or guardian can rest easier knowing their child is safer because
they have provided the best protection available.
MANUFACTURE
This device lends itself to mass production through injection molding
of polymer parts and die casting of the light weight metal alloys.
